UI Designer

The technology, software, and hardware that a UI designer would use is just about everything. A UI designer's job is to create an easy to use interface for the user, meaning they will need to be familiar with the functions and usability of what they are designing an interface for.

Here are links to UI job offers I found:

In going over the specifics of the kind of work I would be doing I feel that UI Design is a good career choice. Each of the jobs I listed mostly expect the same requirements and I found going through each offer to be easier and more interesting then when I searched for jobs as a Graphic Designer.

Job Hunting

Using simplyhired.com I searched for graphic designer jobs and got a pretty good selection. As can be expected most of the offers are from the NY area and require alot of web design knowledge. This is unfortunate because I find web design to be tedious and boring. Another discouraging issue was the fact that most of the offers did not give much insight into the kind to work they are looking for.
On the plus side I found simplyhired.com was fast and easy to use and provided a good number of job listings.

A Happy Death

A small design I've been working on. The skull was made in Bryce with a filter applied to it in Photoshop for that 'cel shaded' look. The rest was also done in Photoshop.

Art Royale

After several months in the making I finally sat down and finished Casino Royale. Like OHMSS this is also a tribute to the Bond film's opening credits. I tried to keep the same vector style and motif that the film used. Note the 007 in the playing cards.

A Solace Review

'Whatever her sins, if she had given him that Quantum of Solace he could never have behaved to her as he did.'
-The Governor

The short story "Quantum of Solace" is an interesting read, in that it is not the typical James Bond story. Instead of following 007 on an exciting mission, Bond is told the story of a man named Philip Masters by the Governor of Nassau. The story recounts the tragic marriage of the shy and awkward Masters to an air hostess who cheats on him and casts him aside. The story is an interesting change from the usual spy plot line and has a charming ending with Bond realising that real human emotions are more exciting than some of his exploits. A good read for even non Bond fans.

As a side note: As with the Bond films, the story's name is referenced in the story itself. In this case, The Governor has a theory that a relationship can survive anything as long as neither partner loses common humanity. He calls this the 'Law of the Quantum of Solace'.

Graphic Designer

Concerning what career I would like to pursue, Graphic Designer seems to stand out to me, mainly because of my extensive use of Photoshop. I find that Photoshop is the easiest way to design graphic content and art with the best results. As far as specific work, I'd be mostly interested in designing ads/posters for movies, video games, and/or graphic novels. To narrow it down I suppose designing movie posters is at the top of the list.

Quantum of Solace

Being a huge James Bond fan I decided to 'bite the bullet' and pick up an Ian Fleming 007 novel. As you may have guessed the novel is "Quantum of Solace", the complete collection of short stories featuring 007. Although I am only a few pages into the story "Quantum of Solace", I am already impressed with the talent of Fleming. His writing is fantastic and easy to 'get into'. As I finish the stories I'll post reviews of them and compare them to the films they inspired.

OHMSS

Finally it is done. After a long painful hour of work it is finished...OHMSS.

The image was made in Photoshop and is based on the title sequence from the James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service. OHMSS was the only Bond film to feature George Lazenby as 007 and is considered to be one of, if not THE best Bond film ever. Ironic, since the film is almost impossible to find on dvd.

Welcome

Welcome to Absolut Quantum. Enjoy yourself.
