'Whatever her sins, if she had given him that Quantum of Solace he could never have behaved to her as he did.'
-The Governor
The short story "Quantum of Solace" is an interesting read, in that it is not the typical James Bond story. Instead of following 007 on an exciting mission, Bond is told the story of a man named Philip Masters by the Governor of Nassau. The story recounts the tragic marriage of the shy and awkward Masters to an air hostess who cheats on him and casts him aside. The story is an interesting change from the usual spy plot line and has a charming ending with Bond realising that real human emotions are more exciting than some of his exploits. A good read for even non Bond fans.
As a side note: As with the Bond films, the story's name is referenced in the story itself. In this case, The Governor has a theory that a relationship can survive anything as long as neither partner loses common humanity. He calls this the 'Law of the Quantum of Solace'.
